Careers

We believe every child should leave our school fully prepared for life in an ever changing modern society. We therefore provide a broad and balanced curriculum supported by quality careers education, information advice and guidance to develop every young person’s values, skills and behaviours that they will need to get on and succeed in life.

Within these current times careers advice and guidance is paramount to enabling pupils to embark upon a career pathway in a challenging and changing climate.

Pupil support

At Bishopton we are committed to ensuring every pupil receives meaningful, personalised careers guidance throughout their time with us — from Key Stage 3 through to Year 11 and beyond.

All Year 11 students receive a one-to-one careers interview with a qualified careers adviser from Stockton Borough Council, who visits school on a weekly basis. Additional guidance and support is available for any student who needs it, regardless of year group.

Youth Directions

We work closely with Youth Directions, who provide a range of services to young people across the Borough:

  • Participation Support
  • Guidance Services
  • Targeted Youth Support
  • Prevention Service
  • Youth Offending Team
  • Stockton Youth Assembly

Careers Programme

Our careers programme is subject to ongoing monitoring and evaluation and is mapped to the Gatsby Benchmarks. Louise McPhee reports to the headteacher termly with information including NEET figures, stakeholder feedback and the impact of the programme. Progress is tracked using the Compass Tool.

Evaluation & Review

We assess the impact of our careers programme by monitoring destinations data, including the proportion of pupils who are not in education, employment or training (NEET), and by reviewing the effectiveness of careers guidance and support. This information is reviewed annually and will next be updated in September 2026.

Labour Market Information (LMI)

Understanding the local job market can help students and parents make informed decisions about careers and further study. The Tees Valley Combined Authority website provides up-to-date information about local employment, growth sectors, and the skills employers are looking for in our area.

Baker Clause

As required by statutory guidance, we publish our Provider Access Policy outlining how training providers can access pupils.
