As part of Bishopton’s Remembrance commemorations for 2025, our students and staff took part in two meaningful days of reflection and learning.
On Monday 10th November, students visited Billingham Memorial Gardens to pay their respects to those who served and sacrificed. Each student wrote a personal message of thanks on a wooden cross before placing it in a special school tribute box, which was left at the memorial as a symbol of our collective remembrance.
Students also completed reflective activity sheets designed to help them take in the enormity of the occasion, particularly in the context of their own local community. The visit was also a valuable opportunity for pupils to practise everyday life skills—using public transport responsibly and showing respect in a public setting.
The following day, Tuesday 11th November, Bishopton held its own Remembrance Service at school, led by Lee Waite, a staff member and proud Army veteran. Dressed in his veterans Royal British Legion jacket and medals, he shared a personal and powerful story that deeply resonated with both students and staff.
Joining the service was Kate Dack, another member of staff and Special Chief Inspector, who also wore her uniform and medals with pride. Both Lee and Kate spoke movingly about the importance of remembrance and were touched by the respectful response and curiosity shown by students, many of whom asked thoughtful questions afterwards.
Today was truly a proud moment for Bishopton. From Year 7 to Year 11, our entire school community came together to mark Remembrance. Every student showed respect and maturity during the two-minute silence, creating a moment of unity that reflected the values we work hard to instil every day—Ready, Respectful, and Resilient.
The two days were a wonderful reflection of Bishopton’s community spirit—showing empathy, respect, and pride in understanding the significance of remembrance, both locally and nationally.
A huge thank you to all staff and students for approaching this event with such enthusiasm, professionalism, and care. Your collective effort made this a powerful and memorable occasion for everyone involved.
